Round two of the 2011 Ontario Provincial Rally Championship saw 2009 champion, Chris Martin, dominate the competition, winning every stage of the rally. Martin and co-driver Brian Johnson made history as they sped to victory with an impressive three minute lead on the competition.

Lanark marked the third event for the pair who first ran together at last season’s finale at the Rally of the Tall Pines and both men were extremely pleased at how quickly their first trip to the top of the podium arrived. Said Martin, “From day one, Brian and I worked together very well, but here at Lanark, it seemed as though everything really clicked perfectly and it showed in our result.” It would be hard to argue that assessment as the duo came out swinging and opened a 28 second lead after the first stage and never looked back.

“Chris drove perfectly,” said co-driver, Johnson. “The roads here are an absolute blast, but they’re also pretty technical in spots and can bite you if you’re not careful. We knew that making good notes would be critical and worked hard to create them from the ground up rather than refining Chris’ notes from last year. I think what we came up with worked perfectly and really let us attack the stages with confidence.”

Saturday’s win moved Martin to the top of the OPRC standings, but with four of six rounds remaining, every point is crucial and given that Martin will not be in attendance at the next round, he knows that it will be a tough battle that will more than likely continue all the way to November’s Tall Pines Rally once again. “It’s going to be a long year for sure,” he said, “but I am really encouraged by what we have done so far and hoping that Brian and I, with the help of our crew and supporters, will be able to come out on top by season’s end.”

The Old School Motorsports Family would like to thank the Lanark Highlands Forest Rally organizing committee and workers for their tireless efforts in putting on a great event and of course their fans and sponsors, specifically Rising Sun Automotive Distributors, EBC Brakes, Innovative Tuning, AVO Suspension and MacEwen Petroleum for their unfailing support.
