Rally and offroad racing driver Bill Holmes of Malibu, CA and his co-driver Sean Gallagher of Santa Ana, CA took the first place win in the “Open Two Wheel Drive” class at the Gorman Ridge Rally. The United States Rally Championship Series race was held on August 28, 2010 at the Hungary Valley Recreation Area in Gorman, California.

The Bilstein/BFGoodrich sponsored 2008 Ford F-150 Rally Racing truck was the second vehicle to start the event, followed by a good turn out of all-wheel-drive cars. Vehicles started at one minute intervals and there were 16 stages.

The team of Holmes/Gallagher spent most of the day and night event chasing down the all-wheel drive Subaru STI driven by Keith Jackson of Vista, CA. Although the rear wheel drive truck driven by Holmes had a disadvantage on the slippery mountain roads compared to the all-wheel-drive cars, the Holmes team won one stage and tied Jackson on another stage.

After the champagne was sprayed Holmes was asked if he had any problems or special highlights during the event to talk about, Holmes replied with a smile, “No problems at all, though we got some excitement when we went up on two wheels in a turn and rode it out to the edge of the cliff.”

The next event in the United States Rally Championship Series will be the Prescott Forest Rally held in Prescott, AZ on October 1-3, 2010.
