Broken Motorsports driver Jason Smith scored a third place finish at the Atlantic Rally Cup opener on February 6th at Sandblast in Cheraw, South Carolina. This is the highest finish ever in a race for Smith and his co-driver Jared Lantzy.

Smith and Lantzy, in the # 38 Open AWD Light Subaru Impreza, were the first car on the road at the beginning of the rally and held strong completing stage one with the fastest time overall, another first for the team.

“A chance meeting with a sandy bank on the first couple of turns into stage one ended up being a nice wake up and got the blood flowing,” said Smith. “Jared was on point all day and kept us on time, out of trouble and the spirits in the car fun.”

The # 38 team continued racing strong through out the first three stages despite the less than desirable conditions. Rain and snow in the days leading up to the event offered a challenging mix of racing terrain.

“I’m consistently impressed with Jason’s ability to adapt to road conditions and push the car to its limit,” said Lantzy. “After that soft trip up the bank on the first quarter mile of the first stage, J didn’t really put a wheel wrong the rest of the rally.”

After few repairs were needed to the car during the race Smith and Lantzy finished stages six and seven smoothly despite lighting issues. They pulled off an impressive third place finish, a full eight minutes ahead of the car behind them, and both were very happy to make the podium.

The next race for the team is on May 29th and 30th at Rally Tennessee in Linden, TN. The Broken Racing team is supported and sponsored by Valkyrie Motorsports, Pit Crew Skateboards, RallyEAST, Big Boulder Park, Epsilon Alliance, USRT, Want Beverages, and
