RSport Rally driver Bob Trinder and navigator Andy White kicked their season off with a great third in Open class finish at the infamous DooWop rally, held in the western Washington this past weekend.

“The rally was the easiest part of the weekend,” Bob explained. The team’s drama began when the service truck’s drive shaft broke just over the Canada/US border. A very helpful garage stayed open, and managed to replace the broken parts enabling crew, car and equipment to make the start.

“The first day was ‘extremely interesting’,” said Bob as the Subaru WRX RA seemed to have a mind of its own, trying to snap sideways off the road on the long fast straights. Thanks to Dave Clark, a skewed rear wheel was diagnosed and fixed, transforming the handling of the car for the main event on the second day.

The team enjoyed the first two stages of day two which were held on damp tarmac. As the following stage was gravel the tarmac stages were run on gravel tires creating some great entertainment for spectators. A fourth overall signaled a good start to the day, culminating in a trouble-free run to third open and the first hardware of the season for the team.

After blowing the drive line on the way down to the event, the team’s service truck had one more surprise in store, blowing an inside rear tire in the early hours of the morning on the way home.
