The WCRA Rallycross Series returns to Hope to once again challenge the tight and technical layouts of the Sports Bowl. Course design accents car control and wheel placement rather than speed and power.

For all participating drivers, and anyone else able to come out: we always ALWAYS need volunteers around the outside of the course keeping an eye on the track and righting any fallen cones. Bring an umbrella if it looks like rain and grab a spot outside the barriers when your class isn't running. Rallycross always needs volunteers to keep it going. You can always photograph the cars from there too!

Cone Penalty Discussion

Thanks to Jason and Darsi for a great event!

One topic I would like to hear some input on from those competing was the 3-second per cone time penalty.
I know people do not like to set up cones that have been knocked down, however, 2-seconds is still enough of a deterrent to prevent competitors from hitting them. With a 2-second penalty instead of a 3-second penalty I do not believe people will deliberately hit them.

The 3-second penalty is quite extreme. The standard 'racing' cone penalty of 2-seconds appears to be more in line with such a short circuit. I would be really interested to see how the scores break down with both the 2-second and 3-second penalty's awarded (Maybe Jason could do this?) - I think the results for many competitors would be considerably different.

The reason 3-seconds is a concern is that it does encourage people to just drive an 'average' speed and not really go for it. The penalty of 3-seconds per cone for 'going for it' is quite substantial and does have an impact on the racing aspect for the driver and spectator aspect in terms of the show of the event.

When you watch one of your competitors have a great run and they clip a cone, you know their run is totally done. With a 2-second penalty they may still be in it -- so you still have to go for it yourself. This is what it's all about.

Any thoughts... It would be interesting to see the scores (Once again if you could do this Jason) with both the 2-second and 3-second penalty's awarded so that we can assess the impact that, that 1-extra second has on the final outcome.

Thanks again for a great event! Congrats to the winner!
