Mazda2 can accept a lot the R2 Fiesta parts. Suspension is bolt on. Brakes maybe. Dave can chime in what works, but I think you need the Fiesta motor/harness but that is all drop in.\r\n

Not sure on the brakes. Probably at least very close. Ford tends to use weird European bolt patterns on their small cars. Mazda2 is 4x100. Fiesta and Mazda2 share hard points, but very few actual parts. Wheel bearings, end links and front strut mounts are the only ones that are identical. Fiesta motor should fit, but again, probably isn\'t a legal swap. That engine has never been in a Mazda.
    \n
\nI was told by Japan that the Mazda3 engine wouldn\'t physically fit between the frame rails, but I\'ve seen a Mazdaspeed3 engine jammed in there, so someone wasn\'t telling me the whole truth. So, with a little creativity, you could use Hendo\'s junkyard motor when he upgrades. 2.3 liters in a 2300 pound car should be plenty!
    \n
\nProbably easier (and lighter) to just put Dave Hintz\'s turbo on the original 1.5 liter...

Which makes me wish they would just drop G2/G5 and call it 2WD for regionals. Example is my Honda. It\'s just as much work/dollars to take my B16 and slap a turbo on it to make a reliable 200HP at the wheels with gobs more torque than I would to build up an N/A motor build. Don\'t have to rev it to the moon either, but with a 1.75 rod/stroke on the B16 I still can. However, putting a snail puts me in G5 and there\'s barely anybody in that class. Much like putting a Mazdaspeed3 motor in a Mazda2.
    \r\n
\r\nI\'m sure you can get the 2.3 to fit in the Mazda2, like you can fit a K series into an EG/EK. Doesn\'t mean it will work well. I\'d do a K series on my EK hatch, but the whole engine has to sit a couple inches lower to clear the hood. So I either sacrifice ground clearance or make some goofy custom hood and custom motor mounts.
    \r\n
\r\nAnd to make crazyness... Busa powered rally cars would be awesome.\r\n

Sadly, I think there are already rules in place to prevent that kind of creativity. I\'m really itching to do a 1st gen RX-7 with a hayabusa engine swap (http://www.motoiq.com/projects/proje...miatabusa.aspx), but that damn engines-from-the-same-manufacturer rule is still in place, isn\'t it? I wonder if the fact that Suzuki makes the Mazda Scrum for us would help....

\r\n \r\n - Mazda Contingency Awards are available for select categories and classes of racing. Eligible vehicles must fit within 3 categories:
\n1. Mazda production vehicle using stock chassis with modified or stock bodywork
\n2. Mazda-powered vehicle with tube-frame chassis using approved Mazda "silhouette" bodywork
\n3. Mazda-powered purpose-built race vehicles (sports racing car and formula/open wheel cars) using a Mazda production powerplant\r\n \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
under #1, it is a Mazda production vehicle and it is a stock chassis and body work.
    \n
    \nthe other 2 wouldn\'t apply to me because i fall within #1.
    \n
\nlike in the case of #3, what part other then the motor would be mazda, it\'s just reverse for #1.

\r\n I\'m with you 100%. 2WD traction is enough of a limiting factor to make G2 and G5 essentially identical classes. Just make them one already! CRS has been doing that for decades and last time I looked (long time ago) the only time a G5 car won the G2/5 championship was when I did it with a non-turbo Sentra that only fell into G5 on a technicality (2.5 liters X multipliers for variable valve timing and 4 valves per cylinder) but performed just like a G2 car.

    \r\n Eric,
\r\nSorry yours took so long. I always have to spend lots of time sorting through 2WD results since RA doesn\'t report results the same way we score them (all 2WD cars together, combined national and regional, scored per day). It wasn\'t until finally dug yours our from under an avalanche on my desk and got around to doing the 2WD math that I remembered you were 4WD and really easy to score.
    \r\n
\r\nNice job, by the way. Way to fly the Mazda flag high!

\r\n Another "thank you" to Mazda and Mazdaspeed, this time for their SCCA RallyCross contingency program. $500 for second place in class at the national championship.
\r\nThere\'s no good reason in my mind not to bring your stage rally cars out and cash in at the national challenges ($200 for first in any class) and the national championship event ($750 for first).\r\n

\r\n Just processed a few more rally contingency forms Barrett Dash in my old Mazda3. He\'s getting $200 from day2 at Oregon Trail (day 1 was under the 30-mile minimum to count as a real rally in our eyes, and day 3 was a DNF, so it\'s a good thing we\'re paying per day!), $200 from Idaho Rally day 1, $200 from day 2, and another $200 from day 1 at Olympia.
    \r\n
\r\nLooking through the results, I also saw there was a Jarred Swalwell running an FC RX-7 at OTR who hadn\'t bothered to sign up (and properly sticker his car) for the Mazdaspeed contengency program. We would have sent him $100 for OTR day 2 and $200 from day 2 if he was signed up. There are probably other rallies out there he could be getting paid for too. If anyone knows him, smack him up side the head and give him a Mazda sticker!

    \r\n Hi Dave,
    \r\n
\r\nIt would be great if you guys would offer monetary support for CARS events north of the border. It would make my decision on what car to rally that much easier since there\'s a Mazda for sale that needs a bit of work not to far from me :-)

\r\n Though we work closely with them, Mazda Canada is actually a different company, so CARS support would be their deal. They\'re in Toronto, so maybe you need to go pound on some doors and show them how great we do things down here!

    \n
\nJust lost out by 15 sec. to 1st place Evan Cline in Sno Regional. Got ~2min back on The Ranch to make it close. Oh well still 1st Open for both Regionals. 4th o/a on that stage, the GTX is unreal on the tight rough stuff!

\nPretty cool for Mazdaspeed to recognize a 26 year old car and for it to place 7th O/A if I entered the national. Oh well regional wins are even better!\r\n

\r\n The SCCA is set to reintroduce rallysprints (cages required, not sure about logbooks) in 2015, I wonder if the contingency program will be extended to the sprints? It\'d be awesome to see them recieve similar support to that of the rallycross program, but admit that it\'s tough to has out details on a contingency program when classing information hasn\'t been released as of yet. Mazda\'s support of all motorsport is fantastic and one of the reasoning that i\'m building a BG chassis.\r\n

\r\n I think this has been answered on another forum but I had to refresh my understanding. Because I do love Mazda but happen to have a Mazda built Ford.
    \r\n
\r\nThis would cover exclusively cars with the Mazda badge and VIN? Not including the Ford Escort GT with Mazda Power and parts?\r\n

\r\n So whats the deal on the contingency card if I don\'t spend money. I\'ve only received the 100 dollars from a national challenge rallyX but I don\'t want to get charged for non usage since I may only make 1 qualifiable race a year for contingency money.
    \r\n
    \r\nPS: thanks for the 100 \r\n

\r\n There\'s a monthly fee. Log into citicard and see how much it is. 3.50 or something close. Doesn\'t matter if you use it or not, shrinks monthly. Might as well use it up sooner than later anyhow!\r\n

\r\n Just another quick payout note. There have been lots of payouts over the last year that I haven\'t had time to post, but this one stood out. Daniel Little is getting $600 for kicking ass in an old MX-3 at the tiny little Headwaters regional rally. We pay for any rally over 30 stage miles and this little event is 36 miles. Early entry fee for the event was only $300! Gotta love the payback on that one!
    \n
\nGo out and support those little events so we can have more of them!

\r\n Alright Dave- spill the beans on the potential awd Speed3! I\'m tired of speculation and bad photoshops.
    \n
    \nNoticed Japan has awd 2 and 3\'s coming for 2015 also...http://www.demio.mazda.co.jp/4wd/

\nAnd thanks for deciphering the scores and results for us and Mazda!\r\n

\r\n Does this count for rallies up here in the Great White North, as I see it there are zero Mazdas running. So the payouts may be worth prepping a Speed3!\r\n
