Our on-board video of Time Attack 4WD run on the 2011 Pikes Peak is up now for your viewing pleasure. Ride along with our ups and downshifts as we lose our clutch and go all PG-13 with 2 miles to go.
I'm curious . . . is it safe to say that Brianne prefers the tarmac. I get the impression, that she was more comfortable on the tarmac. In fact, I'll even so say that she was struggling a little on the gravel. However, what I don't know is whether the gravel section might have been because of choosing more "tarmac" oriented tire.
Nevertheless . . . fantastic video and great driving (and co-driving) on both of your parts.
The gravel section was less than ~1.5 miles, if you ran a gravel set up you were not going to be fast. Almost all of the cars looked a bit out of their element on the gravel this year...
Exactly. We set up the car to be faster overall, which slanted the prep towards tarmac. We used hand grooved roadracing tires and the suspension was set up to be somewhat neutral on tarmac, which is pushy on the gravel. There was also a big rock right on one of the apexes in the dirt section which Brianne avoided, but it caused her to drive off line and slowed her corner exit which messed up the next two corners.
Personally, I think she's fast everywhere, but relative to other drivers I think she's faster on gravel and dirt.
Definitely was car setup. We needed a few more tweaks on things that weren't adjustable (she commented that it was still little more than a fast street car with a cage) that would have helped on gravel. Felt good on the pavement.
Yup . . . she's definitely quick on gravel, as the video at 100AW. Wow! I had a huntch that her "problems" on the gravel at PPIHC might be due to car set up, but I just wasn't sure. She was impressive on the tarmac as well!
Cheers,
Simon
