Default Oregon Trail MaxAttack!- Day 2

For earlier updates, see the Day 1 thread here.

At the start of Day 2, several interesting developments have occurred overnight.

-Dave Henderson and Terrence McDowell's Mazda3 is still sidelined. Barrett Dash, the owner is still looking for a donor engine so they can come back out and run tomorrow, but at this point they are out of the MaxAttack! contention.

-Chris Duplessis and Ron Zaras are getting to grips with the new Scion XD. Says Chris, "the car leads the rally in number of cupholders." That number? Seven.

-At the start of Day 2, Cody Crane revealed to me his plans...go easy on Catch'um and let 'er rip on Fir Mountain. The Catch'um stage that will be run twice today is a fair bit rough and he's worried that the Honda CRX might suffer for the beating. He and Billy Irvin start the day 3.7 seconds down from first position.

-That first position belongs to Dillon Van Way and Ben Slocum in their turbocharged Ford Focus. The pair did very well on the spectator stages at PIR and are excited to run today, but wary of their thin lead.

-Burak Tuglu and Carrie Wilburn's Ford Focus never left the trailer this morning. The engine needs work and they withdrew. In true MaxAttack! spirit, Burak loaned his wheels and tires to fellow MaxAttackers Sean and Jenne Medcroft campaigning their very sharp Merkur XR4Ti in only their 2nd rally.

-Dodge SRT-4 of John Conley and Keith Rudolph didn't escape the PIR gremlins last night either. The team broke an axle on the tarmac SS1 and had to run SS2 (dirt through the motocross track) on 1 wheel drive thanks to the spool in the gearbox. The team got the axle changed between SS2 and SS3 and are gunning for a great weekend in the woods from here on out.

-The very modified VW Rabbit GTI of Roger Matthews and Rebecca Greek suffered an engine mount failure last night at PIR. They have the engine strapped down on one end with a motorcycle tie down and going for MaxAttack! today.

-A neat Historic battle is developing with two very well prepared, but very different cars. Garth Ankeny and Russ Kraushaar are driving the FWD 1969 Saab 96 while Glenn Wallace and R Dale Kraushaar are competing in a RWD 1967 Ford Cortina. Both cars look very well presented, as period correct as modern rules allow, and a ton of fun. We'll be checking in with the Historic MaxAttackers to keep an eye on their battle.

-Matt Weaver and William Kostich are competing in the ex-Herodos Mazda RX-7. This is their third event in the car since switching from AWD to RWD. Says , "I'm never going back to AWD!"

-Rally rookies Jason Wong and Yujiro Otsuki are competing in just their second event in their Plymouth Neon. They are looking forward to hitting the forest and wanted to share their experience LIVE. You can get live video feed of the team from the stages by going to Twitter and searching for "subiephoto".

-At the first service today, Dillon Van Way has opened up a large lead on Cody Crane. We stopped by to see what's happening. Cody says the car acted like an axle broke on SS5, so he limped it through SS6 losing a minute in the process. Upon inspection at service, both axles appear to be intact, which arose concerns that perhaps their welded diff broke. After loading the engine on the jackstands, it was determined that the motor mounts are just used up and the engine is moving so much under bind that the axles are getting overextended. Again, the fix was a motorcycle tie down strap courtesy of none other than Dillon Van Way. Awesome MaxAttack! spirit, guys. Leaving for SS7, Cody says "after Catch'um II, it's ON."

-As stated, Dillon Van Way and Ben Slocum are leaving for SS7 with a 1-minute lead over Cody Crane and Billy Irvin. Ben said they were driving at true "MaxAttack! pace." The outside camera had vegetation on it...can't wait to see the footage.

-Chris Duplessis and Ron Zaras are starting SS7 just 12 seconds behind Cody Crane in 3rd position in the Scion XD. The battle between them will largely be determined by whether the Honda's problem was just the excessive engine movement, or if more mechanical damage is there.

-Going into SS7, the top 5 that are in money paying positions are:

    1. Dillon Van Way/Ben Slocum--Ford Focus
    2. Cody Crane/Billy Irvin--Honda CRX
    3. Chris Duplessis/Ron Zaras--Scion XD
    4. Garth Ankeny/Russ Kraushaar--1969 Saab 96 (!)
    5. Andrew Lockhart/Robin Lockhart--VW GTI

-5th place Andrew and Robin Lockhart are a brother and sister team in a beautifully prepared Guy Light VW GTI. This is the first rally the team has competed in for a year now and they are certainly finding their pace!

For those who haven't seen it yet, Jabroni has put up a real time scoring table at http://www.daronhume.com/max-attack. Thanks Jabroni!

Only one small request...would it be possible to add codrivers' names? If not, that's okay, just like giving credit where credit's due! Thanks again. Lurch.
