I'm sure there is a tread somehwhere? what is the mud flap material and where can I get it from in the Boston area? I'm using the Sparco flaps at present but they fall off easy and at $20 a pair not cheap!
Not that many truckstops in New England but if you happen to be in the area of Flynn's truckstop in Shrewsbury or the TA in Greenfield, NH or some industrial area with a large trailer drop yard you can find mudflaps lying on the ground that are perfectly usable for free. Walk around where the trucks back up to a parking block or a deep pothole and all the doofuses that are not paying attention will rip the flaps out of their mounts while backing and they will be sitting there waiting to be harvested.
Whenever I pick up a trailer missing a mudflap I do this and can almost always find one to slap on or at least carry with me to talk my way out of a ticket.
+1 for Susquehanna's urethane flaps, very strong, and easy to work with but a tad expensive, +/- 80 for four(I made 'em big!), I too am going to look a some truck flaps for my daily driver.
5X10 of LDPE in Denver is about $68 a sheet. You'll get about 10 flaps out of it and can use it for other stuff. I've seen it as low as $25 a sheet. Only comes in white.
This is what I use: http://www.argonics.com/agri-sheetprod.html
The Kryptane Xtreme urethane.
Only problem is a 4x8 sheet of 3/16" is $400. Knowing someone that can get scraps is the key
This stuff wont tear and barely wears after many many years.
I dont like polyethylene for mudflaps, I'd rather use big rig flaps than ldpe.
Agreed, Although I used Rallylights mudflaps for our car. I used LDPE for underbody, drive belt protection and even for new door cards, worked great for that stuff.
We usually get this plastic in rolls from the local stock car shop. usually comes in a bunch of colors. Rolls are 24" wide. Just got 10' of it and have enough for all the mud flaps and all underbody protection on the datsun.
plus one for the circle track stuff. That is what we use and i think it was $2.50 per foot or some such thing. We made a set for $3 or $4... Dont last for ever but for less than a dollar each who cares if you have to make a few or one rips off.
i have been using old conveyor belt material. my job throws the stuff away so i have been hording the stuff in my garage. I have mud flaps for life now.
I'm just laughing now about the thought of the the local news reporting an strange increase of truck mud flap thefts in MA.........wasn't me! hahaha
