Would this compressor be considered acceptable for rally-related activities? I figure its compact enought ot take with you on the back of a truck... just wondering if its robust enough?

Or would something liek this be more practical?

Hmm, strange... link works on my 'puter. Anywhoo... the two options I am considering for my impact gun are a 2.5 Hp compressor with an 8 gal tank and the alternative is an 80 ft-lb cordless impact gun. Which is really more practical for a beginning and budget rallyist? How much TQ can I expect from a the compressor option? Thanks, JC

One guy I crewed for rented a tank of nitrogen for the air tools we used on the weekend. That worked well, and is probably cheaper short-term than buying a compressor.
I have seen a lot of people using electric impacts, though. And if you already have a generator going you could easily get a corded electric impact and not have to worry about battery packs going dead.

Well I suppose the electric tools and generator option make the most sense... thanks!

We use CO2 in a PowerTank.

Why waste time with an air compresser when the Nitrogen tank is always ready. Oh...and your tire pressures will be more consistant too.

Thanks for all of your advice fellas. I think I'm going to go with the cordless for now and stick with electric tools run off a generator and maybe get a nitrogen system down the orad like some of you suggested. Cheers, JC

My crew chief brought his nitrogen tank setup (regulator and hose) to RNY last year. He used to crew road races and this was a common method of powering air tools. I rented a medium size tank - really, I just paid $20 for the Nitrogen charge - from the local welding supply I use for welding gas and supplies. Worked GREAT!
