So, in my search for a new service rig that wont leave me stranded or cost me $89 every 200 miles....

I have a question..

Has anyone used a liftgate to lift a car into the back of a boxtruck?

Some of the gates are 2500lb,3000lb and even 5000lb... So they should handle the weight (My car is 2100lbs)...

Some look to be ALMOST long enough, perhaps with little extensions for the rear wheels it would work?

I would be worried about putting too much weight over the edge of the gate, where it isnt designed for..

Has anyone ever tried that?

I haven't seen a liftgate like you talk about (other than big pro race transporters), but I have seen a few club racers use long ramps to drive their cars into the back of a truck (or in one case, a converted school bus).

It sounds like you don't have a liftgate on hand, so a pair of ramps might be a good low-budget alternative.

The only real disadvantage is that if your car isn't drivable at the end of the rally, you can't get it into the truck.

The normal liftgate like you see used to load material onto trucks is rated perhaps 5000 lbs. but at only 24 inches from the rear of the bed. So they will not handle a car even if extended. You just can't get the load center of a car close enough.
