Anybody have any trouble getting a handheld scanner on a plane?

I took my Hand Held Ham radio on a plane a month or so ago, didn't have any problems... and it actually puts out 5Watts...
of course, I didn't try to use it, and I had the antenna off it when it went through security... they probably thought it was an old cell phone... :)
I actually flew to the CART race in Vancouver (from Chicago) just a few weeks after the whole Sept. 11 thing (if I recall correctly). I had it in a bag that I checked, with a charger and two batteries. I didn't have any problems... but you never know.

I have carried ham radio mobile units, hand held units, FRS radios and antennas of a wide variety -- all before 9/11.
Sometimes I was asked questions sometimes I walked through. Oddly, I was never asked for my Ham license.
Worst case they should ask you to turn the equipment on to show that it works.
Good Luck,
Mike
