so being a member of the commonwealth, as NZ is, were a lot of Ford Escorts/ cortinas imported there in the 60's/70's and if so can you still find them?

I'm not an expert on such tings, but if you're looking for a nice clean Mk 1 Cortina I know of one that's about to enter the market.

It's a restored street car. Competition history unknown but I could find out more if you're interested. Car is located in Vancouver.

Cheers,

Bill
PS I don't think the Escort was ever formally imported here, but I could be wrong and they've all just rusted away...

Pity the poor yankiwi ...

In North America without a rwd escort. Yes, the sad news is true. One of the greatest (some would say the greatest) Ford was never sold in North America. There is a small handful of special imports that have made it to our shores. Ralph Kosmides ran a Mk II with a turbo motor for at least one season in the NW Region SCCA rally championship a few years ago in fact. Try contacting Dave Bean Engineering in Los Angeles for an entry to the North America Escort brotherhood. I also suspect that there will be a rather special Mk I at the All British Field Meet in Vancouver this May but I have not confirmed this yet...

Actually, Dave Bean Engineering is in San Andreas, CA, in the Sierras. They are also the official parts source for older Lotuses in the US.

Unless there is more than one Dave Bean Engineering that deals with English Fords.

Dave Bean Engineering is a great company, I bought most of my Lotus parts from them.
