Is it advisable to put a 5-point harness without a main hoop?

In discussions over the years, I have heard concerns voiced that anything more than a 3-point harness is bad without a main hoop. The reason being that, in the event of a rollover with roof collapse, anything more than a 3-point harness will hold the body in the vertical position, hence making your spine the 'new' B-pillar = massive spinal compression.
The reason that a 3-point harness is superior without a main hoop is that the unrestrained shoulder offers the body the opportunity to move to one side in the event of an inverted impact.

For the record, I'm on the side of nothing more than stock belts in a car unless there is a main hoop with backstays.

Thoughts? A recent post on DI (http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showthread.php?p=245338&posted=1#post245338)made me think about this once again, and I know there are people on SS with real fabrication/racing experience that might be able to weigh in.

Here is the pic that got me thinking....

Considering that a coworker of mine is alive because his body was able to move as the roof came down (Golf VR6, 70 mph roll into the center median when punted by an out of control car), I'm pretty much against the whole concept of 4/5/6 point belts without a main hoop (and preferably a cage). The idea of racing belts is that they retain you in the well-protected safety cell. The safety system on street cars is intended to work in a different way.

The pictured setup is fine if you are willing to take the risk of a rollover and have no intention of ever carrying passengers in the back seat. A passenger's head could get to that bar if they were wearing a 5 point harness, let alone a 3 point stock belt. The poster who suggested roll bar padding should try beating his head on it a few times - it is intended to work in concert with a helmet.
