Does anyone know if you can co-drive without a driver's license in Canada like you can America? I'm thinking of co-driving Perce-Neige in late February so I'd like to know :+

Thanks,
Alex

You need either:

a) A CARS license (National or Regional, Driver or CoDriver only)

or

b) A SCCA Clubrally license for Regional Events
A SCCA Prorally license for national events

or

A FIA license

D'Oh! Guess I'll just have to stick with paying 2.5 times the entry fees in America until July. Oh well...Stupid 6-month rule...

Thanks,
Alex

What kind of license do you have?

In the US, you don't need a valid drivers license if you are going to Co-drive. The only thing is that you cannot drive either the rally car or the service vehicle at anytime.

I've had personal experience, I lost my drivers lic. but had my photo ID in the van so I was still able to register and compete.

I drove with my "N" new drivers lisence, no prolbem, you might be able to get away with that.

>AND a valid 'regular' drivers license

Only "for any crew member listed as a driver" NRR I B.1

This implies that codrivers do not need a 'regular' drivers license.

I normally run us through registration and I (the co-driver) have never been asked to show my driver's license.

I stand corrected ... I have ALWAYS been assked for my drivers lic. and was told you needed one. But you're right - the rules don't require one, and there CAN be a co-drivers only lic. issued.

Alright, thanks everyone! That would allow me to still do Sandhills as my first event instead of Sno*Drift and have time to register for a SpeedFreakz membership instead of a family one then buying a rally lic.

Now I need to find a driver for Perce-Neige, any takers? ;)

Thanks,
Alex

OK - I took the radical and unprecedented step of ASKING CARS!!!

The policy is this: The rules do not require the co-driver to hold a drivers license.

Rally licenses don't normally distinguish between driver and co-driver, however, if you apply for a license and do not provide proof of a valid drivers license, your CARS license will be stamped "co-driver only"

What, reading the rulebook isn't good enough? ;-)

Which is what the rules say.

Actually, I don't believe Alex was asking about getting a CARS license, only about running CARS events on an SCCA license...

Right, so it's ok if I go up to Canada with my SCCA Club Rally lic. and enter a regional event in February, I can enter. Correct?

Thanks,
Alex
