It is now almost 35 years since I last took a trip on the edge, first with local rally clubs, then in SCCA (NeOhio & Florida).
My start was with just a friend and a sheet of paper, a pen, and an old stop watch; which quickly became with Curta, Dual Halda odometers, and a Tommy Box MK X.
As the driver, of at first with Mustang GT-HP's and then a Boss 302 it was more about getting at "0" than looking at the countryside.
Alas, now I just wish... and wonder... and just maybe......

So, that makes you, what, 55-60? I hope I don't think it's all over by then. Do it. Otherwise you'll end your days wondering what if.

55 later this year and I've just started having fun!

Over 60... and let me tell you, retirement is not all it is cracked-up to be. And for sure is not worth getting a discount at the movie theater. <LOL>

First I saw DocWhite and I thought Dr. Dave White- but he's not that old....
So, how about getting back in it?
Just like AARP - RA/NASA/CARS do not discriminate based on age (well maybe the Pirate and Grahn do.....).
press on,

I'm also over 60 and retired. haven't competed since the 80's, but have been active ever since with running controls. You mentioned you were from NE Ohio. I probably competed against you at some time since I have lived in Akron since 1974.

Just turned 64, built a new car (finished it 6 months ago) after totaling the other one 1.5 years ago. Still driving, etc (I keep reminding myself of Newman and JB (the classic one)). You can only regret what you don't try.

I would also like to add that the top two, two-wheel-drive rally cars over the two days at the Doo Wop Rallys last weekend, were late sixties, Historic class cars.
My Mom would always say, "You are only as old as you think you are."

Any time I saw P.L. Newman on TV I'd proudly exclaim to my family...."and he's still racing", which somehow justified why I was still competing. Don't have that excuse anymore.
And if I get an email from Harry Ward I never want to open it....somebody else gone.
I'm a real early Boomer (real early!) and got back in because the kids were out of the nest and if i didn't do it now I'd regret it. That was nine seasons ago....so far I've chaired a National event about 4 times, co-driven for about 15 different drivers, won a national championship with one and will hopefully run every R-A national and some regionals this year. Call me too stubborn to quit. And Jimmy's younger than me.....for the record.
Jump in...water's fine. And there's a crying need in getting people in right seats who understand what a Curta and a Tommy Box is. Love your avatar!
