Hey all,

I am looking at H&N restraints, and have used a borrowed Hans for my first Rallies, but now doing the investment for the upcoming season, so. . .

I know Han's Device is the dominant device on the market and at the rallies I have attended, it is also the most common, but I am looking a the Leatt Moto-R Auto brace and was wondering if anyone out there had used one for rally with an open faced helmet??

I have race Motocross for years with the Leatt Brace, and wouldn't even go to a practice day without one on, but I don't know if there is any interference issues with the 360 design of the Moto-R. . . I know it will work well with me as the driver, but as I am outfitting my co-driver as well, I want to make sure he can keep head down comfortably and eyes in the book. . .

So any feedback is appreciated. . .

Doug Nagy from Streetwise Motorsports in SoCal has used one as a codriver this past season and sells them.

hendo783, although the Leatt-Brace is SFI approved for performance, I wouldn't recommend anything in that can contact the soft tissue in front of the neck. That is why most manufacturers have stopped making sternum straps and most santioning bodies do not allow sternum straps.

I haven't been able to try the Leatt myself but the article Mike linked might bring up some issues. Not being able to look down ? So how do you see a route book? Find the fire extinguisher strapped on the floor? Locate the dropped pen or odo button? Make sure the driver didn't park too close to a drop off at the start of a stage? Get down a hill in a hurry for whatever reason? I really wonder what unfamiliar medical help would think of it, it seems like even the helmet straps might be harder to release if someone were unconcious. Maybe someone will have one at tech this year I can look at.

At that point in time Gene, firstly, I'm not sure if they would be removing the helmet, due to possible head and neck injuries, and secondly, EMT sheers haha.

:D

PS, I'm not for or against the LEATT I am unbiased and just giving Gene grief. :p

Nope, Christmas, and the daily driver needs a water pump.

Please define a "sternum strap".

Edit to clarify: I ask because I am sure your not talking about a backpack or floatation device. So before I ask what the objection to one may be I'd like to know what your idea or better the safety H&N communities idea of one is.

ok, he's not talking about a H&N with a sternum strap, just contact above the sternum... or better keeping the area infront of the neck free of any device or belt... I didn't fully understand he was mixing the two...or I may still not get it.

thanks

It was just an example of something that can contact the soft tissue on the front of your neck which is a bad thing in a crash that can cause more injury.

Thanks...as someone who has broken a sternum I chose my H&N with it in mind and I really didn't get what you meant until seeing Mikes post and contemplating it for a day (in my minimal spare time)
