Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, I looked quick and didn't find any discussion on it but counterfeit HANS anchors have been found on at least one helmet. Just thought I'd pass this along, the link to the press release is here:

There was a post in the Susquehanna Motorsports forum regarding this a while back...

No worries. Get this out in the open.
HANS seems to have their best lawyer language up. Tells you which helmets they didn't have problems with (no mention of Peltor - but I suspect this is merely because the road race and drag race guys don't use them). Problems seem restricted to Impact helmets - although there is inuendo to watch out for suppliers of the posts themselves.
Oops. Guess I didn't look in the right places. Sorry.
press on,

From HANS's twitter page
"At Bristol we found 37 of 40 helmets to have counterfeit HANS Post Anchors. More http://www.cnbc.com/id/3247...
3:52 PM Aug 20th from web"
F**K me, thats a counterfeiting issue if there has ever been one!

The posts I installed on my Arai helmet that came with my HANs sport are magnetic (they are the ones with black base)
The posts on my brand new Peltor that I got from Sube Sports are not magnetic and have the metalic base, but also don't say HANs anywhere on them, simply FIA blah, blah, blah.
I don't know how much I buy the implication that these are nefarious counterfits especially when "37 or 40" helmets are bad...I'd be more inclined to think it is bad QC of some sort, or a supplier that swapped materials.

Howard, I sent you an email....per that PDF workflow on your website, my posts are fake.

Jon, I responded to your email but for everyone else, Jon (and I would suspect JeremyN) have Schroth anchors in their helmets. Schroth and Stand 21 are both licensed manufacturers of the HANS Device in Europe. We don't believe their anchors have been counterfeited. Their center posts may even be non-magnetic. I don't have a lot to do with their business. The only thing anyone using these anchors may need to be concerned about is Schroth and Stand 21 HANS products are not SFI certified, only FIA.
The majority of the helmets we have found counterfeit anchors direct from the manufacturer are from Impact. I'm not sure but I don't think Impact has a very big market share in rally.
