I am 6'8" with a 38-inch waist, and find fitting into race seats is a bit difficult. While I know I fit into seats like Sparco's Evo3, I want to run a seat with head restraints in my Mk3. I've just been looking on a few sites and so far have narrowed it down to the Cobra Evolution GT, the Momo Safari XL or a RaceTech seat. I can't seem to find an OMP or Sparco seat with restraints that looks big enough for me. SO far the RaceTech looks best since it is actually taller and wider. ANyway, any other giants on here that can point me in the right direction. Thanks...

Hey Brian,
talk to Eric Burmeister, (on this forum as "Eric Burmeister",): he's a big guy that has rallied VWs and has Racetech seat in his current Mazda. http://www.burmeisterrallysport.com/

FWIW, im 6'4" 38 waist and fit into a sparco pro ADV but the head restraints are too low to be of much use to me, so dont go that route like I did!
Recaro also has a seat with head restraints that look like they are 'higher up' but then again they are really pricey!

I'm 6'0", 38 waist, and I have a Cobra Siebring GT. The head restraints are low for me. IIRC, the Evolution head restraints are the same height AND further away from your helmet, making matters worse.

Bill, thanks, I will.
John, Yeah, I've driven in cars with head restraints before that sat on my shoulders...

I am 6'3" with a long upper body. I have a 40" waist. I use a Racetech RT4009WTHR. It is perfect. Only issue is that it is not FIA certified, so no NASA events will accept.

Yeah I was thinking about going with the RT9009WTHR since it has the head restraints.

While the evo gt seats are nice and wide and comfy for me at a 38" waist, i would agree that you are too tall for the restraints. I was kinda shocked with how low they were for how wide the seat was...

NRS currently requires FIA seats for NRS logbooked cars, RA or SCCA logbooks aren't required to have FIA seats at NRS events.

Looks like it is now. Like old HANs units you might be able to get it retroactively labeled if there was simply a delay in getting the product tested.
I'd contact Racetech about it...wouldn't want to miss out on an entire series of races b/c of a sticker.

I have the RT4009WHR and can tell you is is short for me (Racetech called me in the summer of '05 to ask what I thought of my newly aquired seat- I told them that us wide guys are often tall as well... I am surprised that seat is not FIA ready now (I think the tall has been out for a few years) .
I also have an OMP "Big" (now called the WRC XL) w/o HR (and like a lot)... but I think you'll find that OMP now offers a number of their seats w/HR that may fit you.

We've got OMP RS-PTs, and I fit them and I'm 6' with a 38-40 waist depending on how much beer I've been drinking. We've got a skinny 6'2" team member that fits them as well. I know that OMP made them wider starting in 2007. So give them a shot.

Sabelt makes an XL version of the Taurus seat, it lists out @ $859.99. It has the head wings you are looking for....it may work for you.

If you look at the bottom of the page of the link I posted below, it seems to indicate that the RT4009WTHR is still not FIA approved ... it's probably a case where they didn't sell enough of them to make it worthwhile for them to pay for it to be tested & approved by the FIA.

For the record My co-driver's seat is a Taurus (non XL) and it fits him perfectly (34in waist 6'4"). I've got a ferrari challenge and it is a touch narrow (33" waist) but fits my height perfectly (6'3")

Just wanted to chime in here, since I used this and another older thread on here quite a bit to gauge which seats I should look at. Being tall and wide really limits what's available (6'4", 40in waist). Originally was hoping to go with Sabelt Titan, but none available in the time frame I had. So was gonna go with the Sparco Evo 3, but they only had red. Sooo, we ended up with the OMP WRC XL and am super happy with them. Very comfy, with the belt holes in a good place. I think they could accomodate and even wider person than me. I know they are not winged seats as the OP intended, but thought it might help out the next guy in a similar situation.
