I think there was just a thread about someone leaving a HANS on their car and driving off losing the device ? I had a car leaving service at Idaho with one on the roof also. I hollared loud enough to stop them and gave the HANS to the co-driver. We've all seen coffee cups, pop cans and brief cases left on car roofs and driven off. Sooner or later someone will do this during an event and have to DNF over it. This is the wrong HANS to be leaving bread crumb trails...;)

Maybe a good solution would be to install cup holders and HANS posts on the roof of the car? :)

I thought of that or maybe cupboards built into the 1/4 panels?

I think we had one go missing at rally TN, but I think the car was on it's roof, not the HANS :)

So, maybe some HANS posts are needed on the bottom of cars, too? :)

Yup, that was me. And, since it never turned up (despite several people spending considerable effort looking for it - THANKS!) I ordered a replacement in time for RWV (sigh).

The HANS arrived with their QuickClick Anchor. My old HANS used the Post Anchor. HANS' pictures don't show the anchor very clearly so here is a picture as it's mounted to my Peltor.

I don't like it AT ALL and will be swapping it out for the old Post Anchors. I tried several techniques but could not get the tethers released without using two hands on each side. I was able to attach and detach using the post anchors with no problem using one hand. The helmet would twist on my head as I pulled the release tether and the thicker hardware gave me less room between the helmet and the wings on my seat.

So, just a heads-up to anyone considering a new HANS to think carefully (and do a test) before using the QuickClick Anchor.

[That was a public service announcement]

On the plus side, Susquehanna Motorsports rocks for giving me a no-questions-asked exchange of tethers option.

As for storage in the rally car, our HANS can be nicely wedged between the center console and the car seats when not in use. However, I usually put mine on and take it off when I'm outside the car due the limited space inside the car. Kieran doesn't have that problem since we've mounted his seat lower and further back giving him plenty of maneuvering room.

All the cubbyholes and HANS posts on the roof aren't going to help in emergency situations.

Everyone should use a label maker or marker to put their names and phone #s on their HANSes.

We were lucky that after losing the HANS, there was a service and I double checked that both helmets and HANS were in the car prior to leaving service. The lucky that Dillion Van Way was in servicearea after DNFing and had his. We asked all the big budget teams first and none had a spare HANS. Also lucky that RA didn't stick us with the deserved penalty for checking out of service late while searching for a HANS.

Saw Billy Elliot Mann leaving for the Mexico Area super special parade transit with his Elton John sunglasses on the roof. Was one car behind him and no way to alert him. Luckily Conley swerved to avoid running them over when they fell off of the roof and that Bushmore was able to open the door and scoop them up while driving.

At STPR a team lost their stagenotes after putting them on roof. Imagine if their timecard was tucked in it. DNF.

People. Never ever put anything on the roof. Period.

Or put very secure tie downs on the roof. :)
