When using FIA belts (2" Schroth or Sabelt for instance) which are marked as "For HANS use only", what Head & Neck restraints are you allowed to use with them?

Any SFI or FIA H&N device (obviously not applicable in Canada, eh :D)?

Only FIA approved H&N devices (i.e. the Hutchins Hybrid would be acceptable once it is FIA approved)?

Only the HANS device is acceptable (ignoring that HANS is the only FIA certified device at the moment)?

And I suppose the next big question is whether scrutineers are even checking this. I know back before CARS started requiring H&N devices, a couple of their scrutineers were talking about checking to make sure if the car had FIA "HANS Only" belts in it, that the crew did indeed have HANS Devices to go with them. But has that carried over and how is it being interpreted now?

If your response is sanctioning body specific, please mention which sanctioning body you are commenting on. It would be nice to know if NASA/R-A/CARS is interpreting this situation differently.

OK, I'll modify that to say "unless you are running on an R-A or NRS license and use an SFI only device"... My quip was directed more at the fact that SFI is not an accepted standard under the CARS rules.

But the questions still stands - if you are using FIA "For HANS Use Only" belts, what H&N Restraints are acceptable and is this being enforced?

At RNY if we see the "For HANS USE ONLY" on the harness label or 2" FIA only certified harnesses and H&NR devices other than Hans are presented we are supposed to reject them. I havent rejected one yet so either we have missed them or there havent been any to date.

There are some 2" web SFI 16.1/5 systems that do not have the restricting label.
