The rallycross is on. The sanction is in, we have the insurance certificate, and the landowner says that he will be ready for us.

The event will be held at the Cannon Falls MN venue on October 14 with the first car out at Noon.

Dave informed me that he will not be able to have his food stand at this event. We will have to fend for ourselves for food.

If there is a particular job that you want to do at the event, volunteer early so you can have your pick. The big openings that I have now are timing/scoring and registration.

The rest of the details will be much the same as the other events and will be posted later.

I've looked through the rules and it says a passenger is allowed. I am curious though, can you have them 'co-drive'? I'm not looking for an advantage just practice.

They can say anything they want to you while you're driving. If that happens to be calling out corners, that's between you and them. ;)

Just as long as all 4 wheels stay on the ground, I'm fine.

BTW Mark, I need to talk to you about the resat of this season. I'll call you thiss week to discuss it.

Now now, that was only once. And I have rally tires now. And struts that aren't blown. And all four wheels came back down in the right order anyhow.

Since then I've actually taken to calling the course out loud for myself. It probably would seem crazy to anyone else in the car with me, but it's really been helping me focus on setting up for the next element.

That's going to be harder in the Legacy with the race seats and full harness...

Gotta do some measuring and get my seat in, only a week and a half...

Do you still need volunteers? I may be able to bring some extra hands if I can fix my car before the rally x.

Mark Holden

Well, all competitors are required to work in some capacity, but extra hands always make things go better.

As Mark has said, "all competitors are required to work in some capacity".

There are a number of tasks that have to be completed to make a rallycross event work:
Registration - make sure forms are signed, collect money, answer questions.

Tech inspection - (filled, but room for another) inspect cars to make sure they are safe for the event. Needs to be SCCA member.

Safety Steward - (filled) oversee event to make sure that it is run safely. Needs to be SCCA member.

Timing/scoring - (2-3 people per run group, 1 filled) Time and record each run.

Starter - You can probably guess the duties.

Cone setters - Set the cones up when/if they get knocked down. Not a glamorous job, but essential. Some times it is even boring. Then you have to watch the event from a prime viewing position.

Drivers - The reason the event is put on.

An event like this could be run without volunteer help, but the cost to enter would have to be hundreds of dollars.

I hope everyone cheerfully volunteers to work. The consequences for someone who refuses to work; they will be being asked to leave without a refund, and their results will not be posted nor will they be counted towards the championship.

Thanks to Mark Holden for keeping up with the questions in this forum.

It would be a warm fuzzy for me if all who planned on attending the Oktoberfest rallycross would pre-register. It is very easy to do and it will take away my fears that no one will show up.

The pre-registration site is here:

Hey, I was just wondering. If you have a rider along; how much do they have to pay? Is it another 50$?

Only if they also compete. They can come out and spectate for free, and can ride along in the car (with proper helmet, etc).

If they want to compete, they need to pay the entry fee.

See you in the morning!

How did the event turn out? Was it a big mud bog where Jim's Bluck kicked everyone's butt?

We had our open house yesterday, I think someone's going to buy it. I'll know for sure this Friday. Then it's back to the metro mess, but I think I'll be able to do more rally stuff. Maybe someday I'll even race my car, but..... I sure do like this '71 Chevelle Malibu I'm working on now.

Jim would have kicked everyone's butt if he'd been there. It was a mud bog. We only had one car unable to complete the course however (my car, but not me driving). It was a sloppy mess with times ranging from nearly 4 minutes at the start to down under 2:30 near the end (the rain was heavy right before we started, and was mostly just mist the rest of the day).

Utecht won M4 and overall, with Jarvey 2nd M4, Kevin Beck won M2, followed by Erik Dahl and myself, SA was Brent Carlson again, and the rest I don't recall.

I think by dint of placing third, I've lost any chance to catch Kevin for the season MN championship. Gotta run the numbers, though.

I bought myself an ez-up for LSPR weekend just before this event. Good timing, at least my tools and gear stayed dry.

Actually, Mark, there were a couple of runs at the beginning over 5 minutes. Utecht pulled a run at just over 2:20. Scott P. placed 2nd in SA in his durango followed by Kathy then Kerry Freund. I don't remember the other placings.

Considering the wet weather and the mud, we had a great turn out (21 drivers, I think) with some new faces.

It took 2 car washes to even get the Audi drivable at highway speed...the second time through we laughed at the chunks of mud on the floor.

Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make the event happen.

It was a great event. Thanks to Denny McGinn for being the eventmaster. Thanks to David Neameyer for the site, and thanks to Carrie Carlson and Amanda Ingle for working timing.

One other thing I would like to note is that Kevin Beck was in the lead overall after the first run set in a 2wd car. He gave me a kick in the shorts and I really had to put one down in the second set to take the OA win.

Congrats to all that had the courage to come out, regardless of the weather.

My car wanted to pull to the left the whole way home. I've washed the worst of the dirt off the surface, but haven't had a chance yet to lift it up and pull the wheels. I know it was packed in pretty good around the rear spindles, and that was before Erik D installed the adobe rear suspension (mud and straw, packed the wheel wells so tight the wheels could barely spin and the suspension couldn't do a thing).

I had one front fender liner pull out too, so I'm going to have to clean the mud out all the way to the top of the fender. Might be easiest to unbolt the whole thing... If we didn't have two more RallyXs, I'd just pull it and toss it because I'm going to get new fenders over the winter.

This is truly a testiment to what rally stands for. Making the best of whatever mothernature throws at you. Adaptation at it's best.

That was a sloppy, soupy mess out there. But boy was it a blast!! I had a really great time and I am so glad to see all the new faces that came out there. I hope you guys aren't discouraged to attend future events because of the messy conditions. Like Mark said, usually once a year or two we get one of these events. It really tests how well we can adjust to conditions.

And my last run with all the missed gates and cones taken down from my of course excursion was longer than my accumulative time for the event!!! I loved the pictures of course workers pushing the car oout of the muck. Thanks Todd, Scott and Mark!! And thank you Mark (again) for letting me borrow your car. I'll try to slow down next time. J/K!!!

Great event Denny. Once again you didn't disappoint. Great venue, great course and smooth organization (even with the weather elements). Can't wait for November now!!!!
