We are making another trip to check out a possible RallyCross/rally site this Saturday. Any one want to join us in San Marcos?

That sounds like fun, but I'll be flying to SoCal Saturday morning.

San Marcos? Like different than Carapetyan's rally ranch? I clearly cannot be there since I'm far away and flying to Omaha Monday for the third stop of our Chrysler tour but I should have some time this fall to further investigate Hugo if that remains a consideration.

FWIW, I did enjoy thrashing that rental Charger around the rally ranch a week ago. I learned that all this technology (ESP, electronic throttle control, ABS and other nuisances) in a RWD car makes the task of setting a car sideways entering a turn much easier in a FWD car these days. That's COMPLETELY backwards from the way it was in the old days ...

Still, any rally driving is better than none as long as no one at the rental agency chooses to ask how all that grass, grime and gook under the car got there. ;)

It's a good thing for both of us that there are a lot of different rental companies we can rotate through. Let's see...which company should I be avoiding this time...?

We seem to be renting exclusively from one agency but since I dropped the car off in a different city than where I collected it I might just get the benefit of the doubt since it appears Dallas jumped on the chance to unload one of their nattier cars on San Antonio. Natty is a matter of perspective after all ...

When did Dave get a rally ranch?

San Marcos is Harris Hill Road, about 20 minutes from here (the rally ranch). Members road course, open in ~90 days.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... Hellifiknow. It was Dave who invited me down there so if I've credited those not due I apologize. BUT! This is a great opp to plug the rightful owners of the Rally Ranch near Austin! Do tell!

And thanks again for allowing me to stir up the water crossings! :D

Well, my guess is the title is in Walt's name but it might also be in Chris's.

And the track we looked at today was about 25 miles from the Rally Ranch. You drove by it almost last weekend as it is close to where State 21 hits I35 in San Marcos.

who can go to this rally ranch to practice?

Ask Walt and Dave. It is their place. But too much practice ruts up the place and digs up lots of rocks. I only turned 4 or 5 laps. But this is a problem with rally, finding a place to practice. Plus knowing what to practice.

Walt isn't greatly fond of people practicing with no insurance for such... which is what I'm working on now if only the guy would call me back. So at present the only time to practice is during a Spokes RallyCross (next one October 7th!).

EDIT: Ohh, but we're looking at putting on a practice/test day the week before the Spokes event with driver instruction available. Stay tuned for details.

Harris Hill is paved! Did some safety checks last weekend, probably doing further checks this weekend along with some sound tests. What a fun track!

If I can get two minutes (or dollars) to rub together hopefully we can have at least a short Rally twixt H2R and Taylor Rotorsports! :fingersx:
