Richard:

It is on the RA site. I just didn't see an updated page for the event. Are you planning to put it on? Just trying to figure out some motorsports plans for the Fall.

Thanks,

Wilson

Yes Rallye de Paris will occur on Nov. 24, 2007. Tenatively planned to be two Coef. 2 events starting around 9 AM and ending just before dark so as to avoid the dust fog.

The event will NOT be cancelled due to low entries. The only thing that can cancel the rally is a national emergency requiring full military use of Camp Maxey.

Two coef. 2? Ohh no... I was counting on getting 5. Shoot. I'm pushing hard to have my little German car ready for an invasion of Paris.

We may still make it a 3 and a 2. I am working on the routes this week. Just trying to be done by dark as no one except Kim knows how to use an odo any more.

By the way, are you sure you want to bring a German car to Camp Maxey? Remember it was a POW camp for Germans during WWII. :)

How about a Mitsubishi . . . uh, oh, uh . . . I mean Dodge?

Any way to convince you to do recce?

Also, if you would be willing to forward the routebook from last year so that I could study it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Wilson

Recce can be done under real combat conditions. Remember this is an active military facility with live ammo firing ranges. When you see signs warning of impact areas, it is not rally cars impacting that they are worried about. It is .223, .40 and .50 pieces of lead in addition to RPG's. Plus the same roads are used multiple times but in differing configurations so to do recce would mean we would have to set up and take down the course multiple times. This means recce is not possible at this time. However, we are exploring videoing the course and making a CD available to all entrants. With the exception of the 'tank trap', there are limited elevation changes so maybe this would be useful.

...and no organizer provided notes?

A CD would be good!

Our route book has so many things in it, it has been accused of being like notes.

One vote for an old fashioned blind rally. Really, this event is one you can do without recce the easiest as most corners are .25 miles apart on a flat, straight and wide road. Also, we don't need to do anything to make this event even faster!

My humble opinion.

I agree with Mark. This event does not mandate notes, really. As he said, course is very visible and easy to navigate. Don't forget to lift now and then and you should be just fine.

Heck, you can almost develop you own notes from Google earth views.

Pre GoogleEarth, I tried to run Sandhills with blown-up topos and satellite images. That lasted about a stage and a half. We weren't allowed to run notes or do serious markup in the routebook then. But there was no prohibition on maps, and you could take the info out of the routebook and use it to supplement the maps.

Richard, can you translate the mileage into yards between instructions for the routebook, instead of 100ths? Then it would be really close to notes.

Regards,

Wilson

I drew up notes off the sat images for RdP last year but abandoned them pre-event when my codriver ended up being a young lady who I helped get into rally, quickly progressed to stage captain status at both RdP and 100AW, but had yet to ride in a rally car during the heat of competition. In fact, I got some facetious threats from my Missouri buddies when they feared my introducing her to the "dark side" would be the act that denied them one of their favorite stage captains. Tonia was the MTC at 100AW this year and I hear she gained a great deal of respect from everyone there for tackling and nailing down that responsibility. Who knows, maybe seeing an MTC from inside a rally car was the key to her success manning one? ;)

But back to the notes, I looked them over post-race and must say they would have worked fine had I a seasoned navvie alongside to call them back to me - or Tonia again this year.

Please come and compete Wilson - you'll not regret the trip (unless chili dogs don't set well with you). :)
