Hints on equipment to bring? (for LSPR)

lights/power/tools are covered

We've got the BFH and several crowbars....

Tow straps, a truck and Beer.....

Does anyone reccommend a Scanner to listen to Net Control?

What sort of scanner? -- how many bands etc..

(no ham licence yet...)

Yes, a scanner is a good idea. Anything that covers the 2M band will work for you at LSPR (144-148MHz).

A 2M transceiver can be had for about the same price, or just a little more than a scanner, will be just as useful as a scanner, and once you do get your license, then you're ahead of the game...

A canopy to keep the sleet off is nice. Service is long and cold in Kenton. WARM CLOTHES. Get one of those new led headlamps, as most service is in the dark. Rain-X is your friend. A shovel or a broom for brushing snow/dirt from the service spot. Leave the beer in the hotel room.

Don't forget the gas cans for the rally car, and don't forget to fill them up before going to the service area! :)

Some fold-up chairs are always nice, as there will be stretches where you'll be standing around (sitting) doing nothing but waiting.

One other thing: don't spread rumors heard over the radio net. The hams don't like it when you end-run their process. :)

And yeah, leave the beer in the hotel room. If caught, penalties can be severe. (i.e. the guys you're servicing for get DQ'd, assessed major road penalty points, etc.)

Deck of cards are nice to have, but don't play go fish against Derrek from Cascade.

A second sweatshirt, hat, and gloves. One set for working on the car, another to have dry to put on between all the work.
