FYI:

Last Friday afternoon, a large part of the Madison Motor Inn,
Located In Rumford burned down due to careless disposal of a cigarette. According to the Lewiston Sun Journal:

"Sixty firefighters from eight communities tackled a spectacular
four-alarm inferno Friday afternoon that gutted 22 rooms at the two-story Madison Motor Inn on Route 2 in Rumford. Another 22 rooms were rendered unusable...

...Sixteen rooms on the west wing - which are separated from the other
complex of 42 rooms - and the restaurant were undamaged."

It is my understanding that the pro rally is now headquartered at Sunday River in Bethel, so this news will not have the impact which it would have a few years ago; however, I thought I'd pass it along incase it affects some participants' plans

Forget about the rally cars tearing up the stage roads and stuff. How about all the fires at the rally hotels? Nobody will want to host a rally now. First Sawmill, now the Madison! You know how things always happen in 3's? Let's hope that doesn't come true!!!

Pete <--has reservations at Sunday River

It will have a large impact as every room within 30 miles of Rumford is booked for the Maine Forest Rally weekend. Now most of those who thought they were set for the Madison will be scrambling to find ANY place to stay. Farmers will be cleaning out barn stalls to rent out for that weekend. ;-)

I dunno, Tim. We called Sunday River the other day and got 2 rooms in the main hotel no problemo.

But I would probably call soon.

I agree. Sunday River has a large number of rooms and condos available. I called late last year and got a condo which slept at least eight people. Half the complex seemed unoccupied so I wouldn't sweat finding a room.
