As stated. Temple Canyon is outside of Canon City, CO. Awesome event, $10 fee for the weekend, lots of cool cars, open course so you can move around where you want to watch from, move between run groups, drink beer, not be stuck behind some caution tape. Camp in the canyon or at the service park. Best rally spectator events in the nation.

After the race on Sunday we will be going to The Spot again to watch the WRC event. Don't even remember which event it is but rest assured there will be beer, food, loud commercials, and maybe we'll beat our record of $60 in Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Don't know if I would say the spectating locations are bette then PPIHC but it sure is cheaper!

Just uh, watch out for rocks *rubs back of head* even if you are 150+ feet away from the course...

oh, i think we could easily hit $80. though, it might be more difficult after a weekend of drinking and hangovers....

Have some faith Mark! The only way to properly beat your hangover is too just keep drinking so by that, I am more than confident we can surpass a measly $60 in PBR!

Pike's Peak has the excitement that comes with being Pike's Peak, but the CHCA events are probably still better in that you can move around on the course between runs and run groups if you want. That means on Saturday alone you could spectate in 8 different locations. Yeah, start out spectating is straights between corners. By far the safer areas in respect to rock spray. 800 HP RWD Open wheelers can spit superbly large rocks for sure.

Just saw Ben's thing for the PDX crowd. Loooks like it's Cyprus this time.

how could you forget it's cyprus?

"which way do i go?!? which way?!?" hahah....

Ha Ha! I am not so foolish this time!

However, I think that this may be Peter's rally... Seb will let him win one more before he shamlessly embarasses him the rest of the year!:7

Actually, with Citroen and Peugeot both pulling out of the WRC after this year, Petter just might let Seb win a few events so that he has better luck of getting a job driving Dakar when he can't find a ride for 2006. Actually, it will be weird to see what happens. Too many good drivers, not enough manufacturers, not enough money to pay multiple good drivers in any team budget. Martin, Gronholm, Rovanperra, Loeb, and ? will all need new drives next year.

I think you meant, Martin, Gronholm, Duval, and Loeb....

Rovanperra will probably stick with mitsu unless mitsu upgrades.

There is always the possibility that Suzuki will actually go full bore, and the Hyundai rumors.

Then the changing regulations to let factory teams run 3 cars as well....

Aaron, Gina and I watched that red 55 quad launch a rock the size of one of those small basketballs into the woods a good 100+ yards at that first real left.

And I got hit in the head by a rock thrown by a sportsmen car, although I watched Keeney shoot a rock hard enough to dent the outside of the A pillar on a cherokee at lands end.

PS if peopel are oging to spectate go about 2.5 miles in to the "yumps" should be a good spot (thats where that guy in the pits next to us rolled last year).....

That's right. I was thinking Duval.

There's also rumor of a Renault return. I don't live on the right continent to make much of a guess as to what any of them will do though. With reduced budgets most teams won't be able to afford a harem of top drivers. Though I just had the thought of Subaru having a Loeb, Solberg combo. That would be a championship winning team. Mitsu will probably get rid of Pani-coke head in exchange for a more rounded driver. The real issue comes down to similar to what we saw with McRae, money and an experienced driver in a developing car. Many drivers have probably gotten past the development stage and will want a well paying ride in a well sorted car, which Skoda, Mitsu, and any incoming team will not have. I guess we'll just have to drink our PBR and see what happens.

Now how about some guesses for the hill climb.

AWD:
Brant Ford/Rebecca Greek
Brian Moody/Grant Hughes
Steve Bis/Regina
Dave Kern/?
Scott Reid/?
Erik Schmidt/?

2WD:
Ryan Oereter/Tracy
Matt Leavitt/?
Gavin Seedorf/?
Tom Kilpatrick/Mike K
Brooks Freehil/?
Ron Nelson/?
Brian McGuire/?
Melissa Salas/?
David Jones/?

I haven't heard status on Waples' car yet. My vote for AWD is biased so I'll go Moody, Ford, Bis for 1-2-3.
2WD is a little harder. I don't have a clue in 2WD who is actually going so I'll guess based on all going. Nelson, Oereter, Frehill. Wow. Hard to guess both classes. Some good competition due for sure this weekend regardless. Fell bad for all the lame asses that don't go to either race or spectate.

We are coming down, but just to spectate because my car is STILL not done. We need directions though, the CHCA website directions aren't very clear, any help would be appreciated.

Renault is a rumor with oomph, but not as a brand more as a conglomerate.

Carlos Goshn who took over nissan and will be taking over Renault is very keen on racing (have you seen the estimates on the Nissan JGTC budgets, think PSA) and not big on F1/open wheelers. He seems very keen on getting into the WRC by 2007 or 2008 and atleast a couple touring car championships!

Just go to Canon City. It's not hard to find once your there. You turn on some street, drive through a neighborhood, past a junkyard, and boom, your there. Really that's about how it is. The directions always suck but it's actually always really easy once your there. What day are you coming down? We'll be staying at the Knotty Pine on the left side of the hwy when you come into town. The headquarters on Friday are at the big hotel on right. Just stop at a gas station and ask how to get to Temple Canyon road. I believe there is a sign off the highway and I know the turn is right by a gas station. Not much help huh.

We're coming in on Saturday morning. I guess I should ask what time everything starts too. Your directions seem like the others I've heard, "Just ask at the gas station". We're looking forward to it and hope that maybe for the next one my car will be done, but until then theres always beer to drink.

Hey, who's going to spectate that can help Mike and I out? I totally forgot we need to provide someone to be a worker. Any takers? I'll buy the beer and some food! Mike built a new shift linkage and we raised the car up with some taller springs since the RallySprint, so I think we're ready to go! Give me a call if you're in 720-810-3625.

Thanks,

Tom K

Driver's meeting is usually around 8 and road closes about then. Cool thing is if you show up late you go to the pits, watch the long straight the the Open wheelers hit 130 on, then drive up between the next runs.

On directions, I'm pretty sure it is a left on 4th and just keep heading south. If you look at maps.google.com you can kind of follow the road see where the canyon is and look at the aerial pics of it. I may upload my in car from last year just to show people how cool the road is if I have time.

Good event this weekend. First hill climb I've been able to participate in. What an awesome road to race on too. Good competition from all the rally guys.

Good meeting some more rally people too and seeing some familiar faces down there.

For those that don't know I'm Erik's new co-driver.

Looking forward to the next event. See you all in Monarch.

Rather large turn out of Rally cars at this event too.

Brants second run at the finish was kinda gut wrenching...wasn't sure he was going to make it! Still a quick first run in that car was impressive.

Todd Cook,

Grant has some good footage of you at Temple. I'll try to have him post it. Would you like it here or on the Arizona forum? Nice job.

Later,
