It might be useful for the long-term health of these forums if users could self-regulate the content, and contributors. Slashdot uses an effective peer moderation system that allows readers to rate each post, and suppress, filter and/or reorganize posts accordingly. I'm sure there are others, perhaps better, such systems available for free.
One can imagine SpecialStage.com allowing each user to customize their personal experience, and user interface -- allowing, for instance, only posts peer-judged to be above a certain quality or interest level to be visible.
This could be useful here, especially as the forum membership grows and the increase in the number and diversity of users creates and reinforces our various cliques, groups, generation gaps, feuds etc.
It's my understanding that these dysfunctional dynamics (and/or certain abrasive, solipsitic posters) have previously undermined other rally forums and e-mail listservs. To the point of killing them, really. We have access to free technology that can prevent that from recurring here.
Thoughts?
