Toyota Corolla FX-16 (Mike Masano’s P-Stock Champion car from 2004)
The car was run from: Laughlin 2003, all of the '04 calendar in CRS and about 4-5 races in '05. The car hasn't rallied since then.
Car was last prepped to run Laughlin '06, but didn’t run the
race. Since then, it's only been driven on the street and one track
day HPDE, where it caught it's only/current issue. Missed a shift
and now the engine has a miss.
We think it's a slipped a shim off a lifter bucket, but haven't had
the time to pull the valve cover off to see.
The car has never been wrecked. Just two blown head gaskets.
Since being built, it's only DNF'd 2 races do to the head gasket
failures. In '05 he had a performance engine built, and they never
got it quite right. The current engine is a 50K miles factory engine, 4age 1.6L DOHC 8200rpm rev limit.
Tranny was rebuilt when we built the shell in 2003, along
with a 4.63:1 or so final drive and a TRD clutch plate limited slip.
The suspension that comes with the car has 2-3 race days on them, Tokico, modified Camero struts. There is a set of LEDA struts available for a separate price, they only have one race on them.
Spares, I can only go by memory right now: there are 3 engines (various states of build and performance), 3 trannies (one has a TRD LSD already installed), 3 or 4 sets of axles, at least a full set of suspension arms (front and back), a spare set of Tokico rally built struts (like
what comes with the car), 2 or 3 full sets of wheels, most with used
rally tires on them, and enough body panles, windows, brake lines, fuel lines, radiators, fans, etc. to rebuild the car several times over.
