MAP Rally Team driver Mark Piatkowski and codriver Robert Maciejski had a premature end at last month’s Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally. While in the pursuit of both 1st overall in the Finger Lakes Regional Rally and 1st in class for Open Light, their engine expired early on the second day which marked the team’s first ever DNF.
With the upcoming New England Forest Rally approximately four weeks following the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally, Mark needed to acquire a new engine on a strict budget. Fortunately both the engine block and heads were salvageable which made the rebuild much easier on time and money.
The MAP Rally Team spread the word of Mark’s struggle to attend the New England Forest Rally. This sparked many fans and fellow rally enthusiasts to send charitable donations eventually exceeding $1,700.
Aiding the build process was MAP Rally Team’s newest sponsor Steel Breeze Racing located in Plainsboro, NJ. Steel Breeze Racing regularly builds racing engines for various applications and specializes in Subaru performance. Their expertise and knowledge in the field helped the team prepare a motor suitable for the rigorous punishment of rallying. Night Shift Performance located in Edison, NJ also helped the cause.
“It’s a battle for me to just arrive to events, let alone race them. So when the engine seized at STPR, I really started scratching my head about Maine (New England Forest Rally). I would also like to sincerely thank everyone who donated to help my cause; it means a whole lot to know there are people who support me and my dream.”
With the New England Forest Rally coming up shortly, Mark Piatkowski and the entire MAP Rally Team are looking forward to setting competitive stage times fueled by their tremendous support.
